Cheaper Wages, Expenses in North Carolina Help Industrial Motion Regain Financial Footing

"Not long ago, industrial-parts distributor Industrial Motion Inc. was in danger of slipping into the red.

The firm faced high property taxes and insurance rates. Turnover spiked as employees faced grueling commutes. To entice warehouse workers and customer-service representatives to stay, the company paid wages that it could barely afford.

So after 10 years of building the business in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., Eric Kozlowski and his partner, Brian Pfeifer, decided it was time to move on to a more affordable clime. Within six months, they resettled their company on the other side of the country in Mooresville, N.C., outside of Charlotte."
